Well, it has begun! We’re several days into the hectic experience that is NaNo! And for this book, I’m trying something new.
When I was in elementary school, I had to write out all of my papers by hand and I absolutely DESPISED it. But, now that I’m older, I’ve found that I actually really enjoy it! I would never do it for anything even remotely final, but it’s actually pretty fun for a first draft.
So, for NaNo, I grabbed one of my many unused notebooks and started scrawling! I can fit 190-210 words on a page usually, and don’t lose too much time by writing it by hand. I’ve found that by using a pen, it’s MUCH easier to avoid my inner-editor screaming at me for every mistake. I know that I’ll fix the mistake when I type everything up, so I’m fine with leaving it alone. (My terrible handwriting aids in this; after a few lines, I don’t even notice the mistakes amid all my other scribbles!) I also feel much more free to go down rabbit trails and see where they take me. Overall, I’m having a really fun time with it!
Does writing by hand sound fun to you? Or do you shudder at the very mention of it? Let me know in the comments!

My students (7th grade) are handwriting and they’re jealous because they know I’m typing haha! But I love handwriting stories. It’s slower paced, but I feel like the quality is usually better. Good luck this month!
